Ellsworth Rotary Club and AFS Intercultural Program students will hold their annual International Potluck and Cultural Performances Night, which is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the EHS Cafe, reports Phyllis Young.

The cost of admission is bringing a dish to share.

The event offers attendees the opportunity “to come and share some time with the students,” and “enjoy some great international foods,” Young added.

Performing in Rhythm Gymnastics are Mei Kato, Japan; Rosario Cumming, Chile; and Thuy Nguyen of the U.S.

Alex Keif and Kevin Nguyen, both of the U.S., offer a break dance demonstration.

Participating in a Vietnamese dance choreographed by Thuy Nguyen, which is “an interpretive dance about Vietnamese history,” Young explained, will be Kato, Abby Piacentini, Morgan Clement, Katy Schrader, MyMy Nguyen, Belle Vachon, Rosie Vachon and Danielle Cyr.

Dave Haskins invites the public to the Bangor Art Society meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, in the Lecture Hall at Bangor Public Library at 145 Harlow St.

In addition to voting for BAS president and vice president, members also will start viewing “some of the members’ winter projects,” Haskins wrote.

Haskins reminds the public of the BAS “Call for Artists” for its 30th annual Juried Art Show, which is open to all Maine artists 18 or older.

The nonrefundable fee is $25 for two entries before May 1 or $30 at the door that day.

Friends of the Calais Free Library have announced they are sponsoring Soup & Poetry Evening at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, in the Children’s Reading Room at the library.

Samples of several soups, breads and beverages will be followed by dessert and poetry readings from professionals to young people.

Also, the CFL Used Bookstore, next to Unobskey School, reopens 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, April 29, and Friday, April 30, and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 1, which also will be the Bookstore’s regular, weekly hours.

Judy Arbia-Colgan is co-chair of the Hermon High School Football Fundraising Committee.

“This coming season will be our second in the program,” Arbia-Colgan wrote, adding “it is our responsibility to raise the funds for this program at the high school at this time,” and “we were lucky enough to be selected to host a great fundraiser!”

The public is invited to enjoy comedian Bob Marley at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, at HHS.

Tickets are $15 and are available at the HHS office, the recreation office at Hermon Middle School and Danforth’s Supermarket on Route 2 in Hermon.

Proceeds benefit the HHS football program.
