Minority advocates are saying Arizona’s new law – which compels law enforcement officers to question people about their immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” that they are in the country illegally – is a form of visual profiling. Is this discriminatory? Does it presume guilt, just because a person’s skin is a darker shade that some others’? Or has illegal immigration become a serious problem requiring such extreme responses? Will the Obama administration tackle a new immigration policy this year? What should it do?
