DEBLOIS – Wendell E. Torrey, 72, husband of the late Yvonne (Augustine) Torrey, died April 11, 2010, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born April 11, 1938, in Cherryfield, the son of Clayton Sr. and Lena (Oakes) Torrey. Wendell was an avid hunter, trapper and a guide at Schoppee Ridge. He retired from Jasper Wyman and Son after many years of service. He was also a master woodcrafter and outdoorsman. He is survived by his four daughters, Wendy and her husband, Jeff Simard, of Deblois, Lisa Hanscom of Roque Bluffs, Mary and her husband, Wilson Polchies, and Darlene Augustine; two sons, Tommy and Timmy Peter Paul, all of Big Cove, Canada; several grandchildren, including Alex Willey, Shane and Sabrina Polchies; one great-grandson, Dakota Simard; one sister-in-law, Virginia Torrey; many nieces, nephews and cousins, including one special nephew and best friend, Allan “Chum” Torrey. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by one granddaughter, Jill Simard; two brothers, Ernest and Clayton Jr.; and one sister, Maxine Bitomski. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 30, at Deblois Cemetery with Ambrose Rolfe officiating. Immediately after the services the family invites relatives and friends to Deblois Town Hall for refreshments. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Milbridge.
