PATTEN – Hugh Angus “Mose” Porter, 80, husband of Barbara (McCarthy) Porter, passed away April 25, 2010, at a Houlton hospital. He was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Burlington, the son of George P. “King” Porter and Flossie (Sibley) Porter. Mose was a Korean War Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. Mose and Barbara were married May 28, 1955, in Burlington, and would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. He was a registered Maine guide. He loved to listen to and play music, was an avid gardener and loved to cook. He was well known for his bean hole beans and homemade bread. He liked to play SKIPBO. Mose was a member of Methodist Men’s Club; a 50-year member and past master of Katahdin Lodge No. 98, AF & AM, Patten; was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor. In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by two daughters, Lynne Porter and her companion, Byron Gove, and Jill Richards; two special grandchildren, Sidney Richardson and Parker Richards; three sisters, Faye Wakefield, Jackie Palmer and her husband, Carroll, and Azuba Palmer; two brothers-in-law, Hubert McCarthy and Ardis, and Vernon McCarthy and his wife, Catherine; special friends, Bruce Campbell, Dickie Somers and Tim Saucier; many nieces and nephews. He also leaves his buddy and old pal, Chomper. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Oakley; and three sisters, Betty, Elde and Daphine. A graveside service will be held noon Saturday, May 15, at Lowell Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Shorey officiating.
