The annual Bangor Band Memorial Concert is 2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor, reports member Sue McKay.

The concert is dedicated to the memory of deceased band members who were part of this historic organization.

Now entering its 151st year of continuous service to the community, this all-volunteer band of teens to seniors will open its Tuesday evening concert series with a June performance at the Bangor Public Library.

Nada Lepper invites you to support the Brooksville Elementary School’s 2011 Brooksville-to-Alaska Iditarod trip by attending two events.

The first is a public breakfast “featuring Mrs. Dodge’s always popular cinnamon buns” and a full breakfast menu, 7-10 a.m. today at Brooksville Elementary School.

Admission is $6 or $15 for families.

The second event, postponed from February, is the “Snowball Softball Tournament,” 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both today and Sunday, May 2, at Brooksville Athletic Field.

There is no admission fee for the tournament; spectators are welcome; concessions will be available; and snow cones will be on sale.

The Enchanted Garden and Greenhouse will hold a Spring Spectacular from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at 186 Green Point Road, off Wilson Street in Brewer.

Marian Jerome wrote, “as part of this open house celebration, we are working with the Bangor Humane Society to take in donations of supplies” as well as “monetary donations.”

Bangor Humane Society representatives will be there “part of the day with some of their furry friends,” along with handouts about adoptions.

The public is invited to an open house at Dixmont United Methodist Church and the Louis Bussey Schoolhouse, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, May 2, at those facilities in Dixmont.

Sonia Erskine reports Dixmont United Methodist Church acquired the school “from the Dixmont Ladies’ Club, and has cleaned and painted the interior of the building” and also has “made many repairs and improvements” to the church, which was constructed in 1834-35.

Both buildings are on the National Register of Historic Places.

The public also is welcome to a special service at 10:45 a.m. that day at the church, and refreshments will be served.
