HADLEY – Evangeline Mayo Stanitis, 85, died May 1, 2010, at the Center for Extended Care, Amherst, Mass., after an extended illness. She was born June 17, 1924, in Brewer, daughter of the late Harland and Cassie Mayo. Evie was educated in the Brewer school system and attended Husson College after high school. On Sept. 3, 1943, Evie married Joseph M. Stanitis in Amherst, Mass., where they raised their three children. They were married for 62 years when Joe passed away in May 2006. She was a longtime employee of Blair, Cutting & Smith Insurance Agency, Amherst, Mass. Evie was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a supportive friend. Those who knew her will miss her every day. Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Stanitis-Dade and husband, Ronald, of Amherst, Mass.; two sons, Stephen P. Stanitis and wife, Terrell, of Shelburne, Vt., and Gary E. Stanitis and wife, Judy, of Central Valley, N.Y.; one brother, George Mayo of Eddington; one sister, Edith More of Brewer; four grandchildren, Julie S. Thompson, Michael P. Stanitis, Amy Stanitis and Jacqueline Stanitis; and one great-granddaughter, Emery Jane Thompson. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph M. Stanitis; and four brothers, Ronald Mayo, Harold Mayo, Richard Mayo and Edward Mayo. Calling hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 3, at Douglass Funeral Service, Amherst Mass., where funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, with a Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Church, Hadley, Mass.
