RANDOLPH – Winfield C. “Hap” Moran, 65, died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at his home after a long illness. He was born Sept. 13, 1944, in Bangor, a son of Leona Tarbox Moran and Harold Moran. Hap attended Carmel schools. He was a member of Local 327 Mass Labor Union. He also was a member of the 1125th Hospital Unit Army National Guard. He was self-employed most of his life around Gardiner in second hand and salvage. For more than 20 years, he was known as the “Rope Man.” He sold rope and cordage at the fairs and all around New England. In the last 15 years, he plowed snow and enjoyed all his customers. Even this past winter, he was out in the truck with his friend, Lou Meader. He enjoyed NASCAR and boating of all kinds, and was looking forward to getting his pontoon boat in the river this summer. He was always ready to help someone with a handout or a hand. He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Rose Mansir. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy of Randolph; his son, Brett Allen Moran and his wife, Sarah; his beautiful granddaughter, Emily Rose Moran, all of Gardiner; several nieces and nephews; the Elsemores, Bullocks, Dwans, Flaggs, Walkers and Allens; a special sister-in-law, Patricia Flagg; and brother-in-law, C. Edward Allen, both of Gardiner. He had nothing but praise for all his nurses and volunteers at Harold Alfond Cancer Center, Dr. Tooth, Dr. Magionalda and Dr. Healey. He loved teasing the girls at the center and looked forward to seeing them. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 5. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Gardiner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903.
