JONESBORO – George Elmer Lund, 73, died unexpectedly April 29, 2010, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after a short illness. He was born May 22, 1936, in Columbia Falls, a son of the late Oscar and Martha (Tibbetts) Lund. George worked various jobs throughout his life. He was employed by Pineo Lumber Co., Gene Emerson, and until his retirement in 1998, by County Concrete. During the past 20 years George may have been seen picking up your trash on his many routes. He also cut pulpwood, enjoyed tinkering in his garage on small engines, hunting and fishing. George enjoyed music, singing country music with his family and his band of special friends, as well as sharing his interest and talent of music with many people throughout his lifetime. George shared his talent of music with some of the local nursing homes. He was predeceased by an infant brother, Milton Lund; his special uncles who raised him throughout his childhood, Otis and Pearl “Quitty” Tibbetts; his in-laws, Irving Sr. and Lily A. Smith; a special son-in-law, Milton Anthony; and a special friend, Jimmy McCurdy. George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ernestine Smith Lund of Jonesboro; and their 10 children, Sue Michaud and husband, John, of Clinton, William Holland and wife, Sheri, Robert Holland and wife, Terry, Timothy Holland and wife, Darlene, Thomas Holland and wife, Gertrude, Teresa (Holland) Webber and husband, Richard, all of Jonesboro, Kevin Holland and wife, Leslie, of Kerrville, Texas, Michael Holland and wife, Donna, of Trenton, Joanie Holland Anthony and Greg Harmon of East Machias, and Karry Holland and wife, Bonnie, of Conway, N.H.; 32 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; as well as his special aunt, Ada Chase of Massachusetts. George also leaves behind eight brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Forest Hill Cemetery, located behind Jonesboro Town Office.
