CONNOR – Ola Katherine McAtee, 87, wife of the late Mikeal McAtee, died May 6, 2010, in Presque Isle. She was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Woodland, daughter of the late Henry and Iva Ruth (Johnson) Haines. Ola was a 1941 graduate of Caribou High School and she married Mikeal J. McAtee April 9, 1945. Ola was a loving and devoted wife, mom, grammy, great-grammy, aunt and friend. She loved to cook, sew, crotchet, garden, create beaded crafts and most importantly take care of her family and spend time with them, but her favorite joy was picking her raspberries in the summer. She loved her flowers and watching the birds from her window. Ola will be remembered for her determined spirit and willing attitude. She was always referred to as “A sweet woman who would go the extra mile.” She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Mikeal; a son, Wayne McAtee; a daughter, Leola McAtee; brothers, Floyd, Carroll and Arnold Haines; and sisters, Myrtle Adams, Elva Lyons and Evelyn Kenney. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ruth McAtee and Helen and Warren Engstrom, all of Connor and Lynda and Patrick Hoff of Newburgh; her grandchildren, Aaron Hoff and his fiancee, Carey Basinger, Larae Hoff, Mikeal Engstrom and his wife, Luca, and Meagan Engstrom; her only great-granddaughter, Christine McKenzie Hoff; several nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Gwendolyn Bragg; special friends and neighbors, Doug and Doreen Hallett, Freda Willard, her friends at TOPS ME 197, Caribou, and her personal caregivers who came in daily to care for her. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. until the time of services 2 p.m. Sunday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with the Rev. Anthony Brisco officiating.
