PITTSFIELD – Mary E. Mixer, 58, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Laurie, in Benton, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Nov. 21, 1951, in Hartland. She graduated from Nokomis High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Thomas College, Waterville. She worked as a purchasing agent for Telford Aviation, Bangor, and more recently for Colgan Air in Virginia. She was a licensed emergency medical technician and worked for Hartland and Pittsfield for several years. She enjoyed substitute teaching and taught in the area schools. Mary loved animals, especially horses and dogs. Her home was always surrounded with many children. She loved the holidays, especially Halloween. She was active with Sebasticook Valley Riding Club and an active member of Church of Christ, both in Centerville, Va., and Pittsfield. She is survived by Steve Mixer of Pittsfield; her children, Daniel Mixer and his wife, Lisa, of Orrington, Nathan Mixer and his wife, Heidi, of Bulgaria, Dale McGann of Pennsylvania, Marcus Mixer and his wife, Jentri, of Florida, Laurie French and Darren of Benton, Sarah Belote and her husband, Matthew, of Portland and Abigail Burbank and her husband, Clint, of Augusta; her grandchildren, Stephanie, Clayton, Alyssa, Troy, Sydney, Spencer, Kayla and Katelyn; her brother, Roy Brooks of Pittsfield; a sister, Sherry Brooks of New Hampshire; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. She will be sadly missed by her special friends from Maine, Virginia and Vermont. She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Muriel York; a brother, Dana Brooks; and a sister, Arlene Nicholas. The family will receive friends 5-9 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
