WEST ENFIELD – Frederick Ruel Hallett Jr., “door and window legend,” 82, husband of Georgia (Burgoyne) Hallett, died May 12, 2010, at his home. He was born April 28, 1928, in Howland, the son of Frederick Ruel Hallett Sr. and Sophie (Clark) Hallett. He was the youngest of 11 children, was raised by his stepfather, Joseph James Michaud, and has many stepbrothers and stepsisters from the Michaud family. Fred attended Howland and West Enfield schools. He enlisted in the Air Force at the end of World War II in Germany. His first job was with Eastern Telephone Co. He then worked as a logger using horses with his brother, Eddie Bernard. As a young man, he joined the ironworkers union. He sold gas refrigerators, stoves and second-hand furniture from 1962 to 1970. In 1969, he started Fred Hallett Doors and Windows, Inc. Golfing was his passion. He won a few amateur tournaments and recorded the coveted hole-in-one at the golf course in West Enfield. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Georgia of West Enfield, he is survived by his three daughters, Christine Cummings and her husband, Steve, Carla Leland and her husband, Kevin, and Patty Lindsay and her husband, Richard; two sons, Fred “Peter” Hallett and his wife, Jonnie, and Joseph Hallett; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends may call 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 14, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A memorial Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Leo Catholic Church, Howland.
