Haitian Ministries and other Maine organizations “that are supporting clinics, orphanages, schools and hospitals,” are planning a “Maine Walks for Haiti” event and are seeking sponsors and participants to form a team and “Go the extra mile for Haiti,” reports Pam Brochu.
The event begins with registration at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Webber Campus Center at Peabody Hall at Husson University in Bangor.
Brochu said, “Haitian Ministries is a medical ministry serving the northern region of Haiti, standing with our Haitian brothers and sisters [in] providing and developing sustainable health care and proclaiming the Good News.”
All funds raised at this event “will support the medical clinics, provide medical care for orphans and help feed the poor,” Brochu wrote.

A public tree planting ceremony is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, in the field of the historic Jonathan Fisher House on Mines Road in Blue Hill.
Linda Hoskins reports the planting is part of the planned re-creation the property’s apple orchard, and this planting will be adjacent to “the 200-year-old St. Germain pear tree” originally planted by the Rev. Fisher.

Newburgh resident Gerry Ross Sommers has been hospitalized seven times since being diagnosed with cancer in November 2009, wrote Regina Ross of Carmel.
And as the “bills continue to mount up,” community members, family and friends are doing what they can to offer “some financial support,” Ross said.
A Benefit Supper and Country Jam Session begins with supper from 4 to 6 p.m. and the jam session 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, May 15, at Newburgh Elementary School on Route 9.
Admission is by donation, and the benefit will feature both a pie and silent auction.
