BREWER – Eugene W. “Bud” Shand, 85, husband of Virginia (Wood) Shand, died May 12, 2010, at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. He was born in 1924, in Lynn, Mass., son of Irving D. and Gladys M. (Haskell) Shand. Bud, as he was known, grew up in Massachusetts and served during World War II with the U.S. Navy. He moved to Maine in 1951 and worked for Brewer Fire Department for several years. He owned and operated his own store and later worked for Irving Oil. Surviving, in addition to his wife of Brewer are two children, Robert J. Shand and his wife, Carolyn, of Victoria, Mexico, and Donald E. Shand and his wife, Rhonda, of Islesboro; two grandchildren, Eric Shand and his wife, Amanda, and their daughter, Ava, of Biddeford, and Steven Shand and his wife, Trisha, of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, James Shand; three sisters, Nancy Daly, Phyllis McAskil and Alva Cotter; several nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by devoted family and friends, Richard and Teresa Dore of Brewer, and Gary Brown, also of Brewer. Bud requested that services be private.
