CARIBOU – Mary Rita Phelan, 85, died May 12, 2010, in Bangor, after a long illness. She was born March 3, 1925, in Caribou, the daughter of Leon and Roseanna (Paradis) Plourde. She attended Lyndon Center School, Holy Rosary School and graduated from Caribou High School, Class of 1942. She married Joseph D. Phelan, Aug. 10, 1946. Mary was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Parish of the Precious Blood Holy Rosary Catholic Church, where she was also a member of Ladies of St. Anne and Catholic Golden Age. She was also a member of High Street Senior Bingo. She loved, laughed easily and was a great cook. She is survived by her children, Peter Phelan and his wife, Diana, Kathryn Molochko and her husband, John, all of Norwich, Conn., Daniel Joseph Phelan of Caribou, Anne F. Paquet and her husband, Larry, of Bangor, and Patrick Phelan and his wife, Pauline, of St. Leonard, New Brunswick; three brothers, Louis Plourde of Westfield, Mass., Joseph Reginald Plourde of Rock Hill, S.C., and George Plourde of Wilberton, Okla.; seven sisters, Emma Whitt of Nashville, Tenn., Elizabeth Beaulieu of Woodland, Laura Sweeney of New Sweden, Regina Beaumier of West Hartford, Conn., Theresa Andrews of Woodland, Florence White of Westfield, Mass., and Anne Plourde of Agawam, Mass.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; two sisters, Louise Espling and Cecile Espling; and a granddaughter, Lisa Marie Phelan.
