POLAND – Pauline Carle Nason, 87, died Sunday, May 9, 2010, at her home with her beloved dog, Samantha Josephine. She was born Oct. 31, 1922, in North Raymond, the daughter of Leon Carle II and Elsie Hamilton Carle. She attended elementary schools in North Raymond and graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1940. She moved to Connecticut in 1941 and was employed by Pratt Whitney Aircraft until the end of World War II in 1945. She was appointed postmistress at Poland Corner by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, a post she held from 1955 to 1983. After retirement from the postal service she was active in real estate rentals and vice president of Cote Mobile Homes. She was a member of National Association of Postmasters and Daughters of the American Revolution, Mary Dillingham Chapter. She was also a member and supporter of Pine Tree Society for Handicapped Children and Adults, and Poland Food Bank. She was a life member of Poland Preservation Society. She loved fishing, holding a trophy for the biggest fish in Iceland. She enjoyed hunting, traveling, flying and camping. She is survived by three nieces, Jacqueline Lemm, Pamela Caldwell and Sally-Ann Spigler; four great-nephews, one great-niece, many great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and close friends, Jill and Jason Bouchard, and their children, Jacob and Rebecca. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Highland Cemetery, West Poland. Remembrance donations can be made to Pine Tree Society, P.O. Box 5518, Bath, ME 04530.
