NORTHEAST HARBOR – Marjorie Bucklin, 100, died April 12, 2010, at a Bar Harbor health care facility. She was born May 29, 1909, in China, Maine, the daughter of Robert A. and Sadie E. (Wiggins) Fletcher. She was one of 12 children, and the last surviving member of her immediate family. Marjorie came to Northeast Harbor at age 16 to work at Rock End Hotel for a summer, and ended up spending the remainder of her life here. She graduated from Gilman High School, Northeast Harbor, in 1928. She was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, serving on the Altar Guild and as a member of Episcopal Church Women for many years. In 2008 she was honored to receive the Boston Post Cane as the oldest living citizen in the town of Mount Desert. She is survived by two sons, Paul R. Bucklin and wife, Pat, of Polk City, Fla., and Peter W. Bucklin and wife, Charlene, of Trenton; a daughter, Jean E. Bonville and husband, Edward, of Northeast Harbor; a daughter-in-law, Susan Bucklin of Willimantic, Conn.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Paul R. Bucklin; and a son, William F. Bucklin. At her request, there will be no funeral service. A private burial service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Northeast Harbor, for members of the family. Contributions in Marjorie’s memory may be made to Mount Desert Nursing Association, P.O.
