HOLDEN – Theresa M. (Rice) O’Brien, 82, formerly of East Hartford, Conn., peacefully journeyed home to heaven Saturday, May 15, 2010. She was the loving wife of 42 years to the late Edward A. O’Brien of East Hartford, Conn. Born March 4, 1928, in Bangor, a daughter of the late James E. and Marion (Dogwood) Rice, she resided in East Hartford, Conn., for more than 50 years, prior to moving to Holden more than two years ago. Theresa was formerly employed by Underwood Typewriter Manufacturing Co., Hartford, Conn. Theresa was a member of Women of the Moose Chapter No. 1470, Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 102 and American Folk Musicians District No. 9, all of East Hartford, Conn. Theresa enjoyed playing bingo and sewing, especially clothes for her neighbors and family. She was also an avid duckpin bowler at Holiday Lanes, Manchester, Conn. Along with her beloved husband and parents, Theresa was predeceased by many brothers and sisters. Theresa is survived by her caring and devoted daughter, Barbara McGrath and her husband, James, of Holden, with whom she made her home; a brother, Robert Rice and his wife, Janice, of Bangor; two special grandchildren, Tammy Dudley and her husband, Scott, in China and Christopher McGrath of Philadelphia; five adored great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at D’Esopo-East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter St., East Hartford, Conn. Burial will be afterward at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford, Conn. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at the funeral home chapel.
