BEALS – Romie W. Alley, 87, husband of the late Ella Ann (Merchant) Alley, died peacefully May 13, 2010, at his home. He was born Nov. 25, 1922, on Beals Island, the youngest son of 15 to Rueben and Mary Alley. Romie worked for many years on the water, lobster fishing with his son, Dennis, worming, clamming and many other jobs. His granddaughter, Hope Alley, took care of him for the last three years. He called her his pride and joy. He enjoyed going to Stewarts Take-out and spending time with his friends, especially with Rosalie Carver, Maxine Stewart and the crew. He also enjoyed listening to his music, and he was an avid Red Sox fan. He was married for 62 years to his wife, Ella Alley, and together they raise five children, Janet Cirone of Addison, Dennis Alley and his wife, Sharon, of Beals, Wayne Alley and his wife, Addie, of Jonesboro, Marilyn O’Bryan of Addison and Mary Ortega and her husband, Barney, of Columbia Falls; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins, including a special great-nephew, Evan Merchant, who he called “Happy Feet.” In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by two sons-in-law, Ernest Cirone Sr. and Robert “Obie” O’Bryan; and a grandson, Patrick Romie Cirone. Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Advent Christian Church, Beals, where a funeral service will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday, May 21. Interment will be at Great Waas Cemetery, Beals.
