SKOWHEGAN – Barbara Louise (White) Wright Harthorn died Monday, May 17, 2010. She was born May 30, 1925, in Washburn, the daughter of Arthur Eugene White and Jennie (Skidgell) White. The family moved to Pittsfield where she graduated from Maine Central Institute in 1944, and met her first husband. She was class agent. She attended Husson College from 1944 to 1946, and she graduated from the secretarial study program. Barbara worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C., in the 1940s. Barbara also worked for Wyndot Worster Woolen Mill, Waterville; Harold Alfond, Norrwock Shoe and Depositors Trust, Skowhegan. She owned and operated a restaurant from her home at Hilton Hill, Cornville. She was famous for her delicious cheesecakes. She was in the Miss Pittsfield Contest in the 1940s. She also sang in the Triple Clef Club, Waterville. In the early-1950s, Barbara married Carl R. Wright Esq. on Mayflower Hill at the new Colby College, Waterville. They lived in Nova Scotia, Concord, N.H., and finally settled in Skowhegan. Barbara and Carl had two children. Barbara later married Harold W. Harthorn. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Terry Lynne Wright Watson and her companion, Loren Walker, of East Madison. She is also survived by her son, Randy Brent Wright of Cornville; two grandsons, Brent Wright and Brian Wright, both of Skowhegan; and three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Mason and Mackenzie. She is survived by a niece, Judith Patten Forsythe of Providence Forge, Va., and her son, Cabot J. Forsythe, and his children, Blake and Brooke; as well as many other nieces and nephews. Viewing hours will be held 4 p.m. until the time of service 5 p.m. Sunday, May 23, at First Baptist Church, South Main Street, Pittsfield, with the Rev. William Johnson officiating. Interment will be after the service at Pittsfield Village Cemetery, Pittsfield. As a devoted animal rights supporter, donations, in lieu of flowers, may be forwarded to Somerset Humane Society, P.O. Box 453, Skowhegan, ME 04976. Burial arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan.
