CHARLESTON – Our mother, Eugenia “Genie” Julia Ritchie passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, May 21, 2010, at her daughter, Kathy and husband, Steven’s home, where she has blessed them for the last five years. She was born Aug. 18, 1918, to Lillian (Perry) and Stanley Goodrich of Fort Fairfield. Her family moved to Pittsfield when she was 11, but she never forgot the county. Mom was a graduate of Maine Central Institute and Farmington Normal School, receiving her teaching diploma in 1939. She married Keith Ritchie, Oct 4, 1940. Mom was involved in the PTA, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Senior Citizens, and helped on many town suppers and did some substitute teaching. Mom was a member of Bradford Baptist Church and Senior Friends. Her crowning physical asset that did not change was her beautiful red hair that she kept until her soul went to glory. Mom blessed our family so much and will be lovingly remembered by three children: son, Almon and his two sons and wives, Donnie and Jilanta and Keith and Janis; her daughter, Kathy and husband, Steven, and their three children: son and wife, Andy and Andrea, their daughters and husbands, Kara and Darren, and Katie and Erick; son, Stanley and wife, Donna, and their four children: son, Josiah and wife, Rachel, and son, Seth and daughters, Miriam and Ruth. She adored her nine great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by her beloved sister, Frances Oliver; a brother-in-law, Hubert Ritchie; and dear friends, Mabelle Reeves, Ruth Smith and Helen True. She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Keith; daughter, Frances Jean; brother, George; sister-in-law, Ann Ritchie; brother-in-law, Leonard Oliver; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Ritchie. Our heartfelt thanks to all those who had a part in Mom’s last months here on Earth: Dr. Hayward, Community Health and Counseling Services and Hospice team, with special thanks to Pam, Ardie, Bridget and Nancy, for their loving care and the prayers and love of our church family. A joyous memorial will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 29, at Bradford Baptist Church, with the Rev. Donald Booker officiating, with a fellowship time afterward. Those who wish to remember Mom may give to Bradford Baptist Church, care of Deb Libby, 37 Harris Road, Charleston, ME 04422. Please visit www.ThompsonFuneralHomes.org.
