THE VILLAGES, Fla. – Joseph F. Doran, 93, passed away May 13, 2010, in The Villages, Fla. Mr. Doran was born Aug. 5, 1916, in Bangor, son of the late John D. and Alice E. Doran. He was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1935. He had a dual career. He started as an elevator boy at New England Telephone Co., 59 Park St., while in school. He retired in Portland as Maine safety coordinator with nearly 47 years of service, having held various positions throughout the state. He enlisted in the Maine Army Guard in 1934 and served in Europe during World War II. He was one of the original members of Maine Air National Guard, Bangor. He served in the Korean War and retired in 1976 as a colonel. He is survived by his daughter, Danielle C. Doran; and his granddaughter, Mary-Alice Wildasin, both of The Villages, Fla.; also nieces and nephews in Maine. He was predeceased by his wife, Rheta Farrin Doran; brothers, John F. and J. Edward; and sister, Elizabeth R. Interment with full military honors will be held May 25 at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
