GORHAM – Gary “2E” A. Nealey Jr., 26, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Portland, after battling acute myeloid leukemia. He was diagnosed Dec. 10, and fought courageously these past six months. He graduated from Gorham High School, Class of 2002. Gary still holds Gorham High School’s track record in triple jump with 44’4.25″. He graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, in 2007, with a bachelor’s degree in new media and a minor in computer science. While at the University of Maine, Orono, he joined Phi Gamma Delta, FIJI, fraternity during his freshman year. He worked as a web developer for InforME, Augusta, for three years. He was a valued part of the Maine.gov team. Gary was predeceased by his grandfathers, Wayne Birmingham and Norman Nealey; and his grandmother, Helen Brawn Birmingham. He is survived by his fiancee, Whitney Mills of Westbrook; mother, Angela Birmingham Nealey; father, Gary A. Nealey Sr.; brother, Justin and his wife, Meghan, and nephew and godson, Brett; sister, Christina Nealey; grandmothers, Dorothy Nealey and Barbara Birmingham; goddaughter, Hannah Manchester; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and his puppy, Sophie. Throughout his illness, Gary inspired everyone with his positive attitude and persistence. He continued to be an avid learner and gamer. He’s pretty much a big deal. Visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at St. Anne’s Church, 299 Main St., Gorham, where a funeral service will be held 4 p.m. with a reception afterward.
