CARRUTHERS LEVANT – Alice Louise (Morrell) Carruthers, 88, died very peacefully May 26, 2010, at her home with her family at her bedside. She was born July 22, 1921, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Henry Morrell and Lettie (Kent) Morrell. Alice lived a good life. She was a good woman. As a girl, her goal in life was to have a home and a family, and that she did. Later on when the kids were grown, she went into real estate, because she liked helping other people find homes. After she and Floyd retired, they traveled and she saw 48 states in the U.S., but wintered in Texas. She never made it to Hawaii, although she would have gone. They took a trip to Bermuda on their 25th anniversary. Floyd passed in 2000 and after that, Alice lived independently in Bangor until 2009, when she moved in with her daughter in Levant, and spent the rest of her days with her loving family. She will be sorely missed for all her ways. She was predeceased by her parents; as well as her husband of 52 years, Floyd G. Carruthers; and her son, Robert Eaves of Sacramento, Calif. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Louis, Benjamin and Frank; her sisters, Florence Dexter, Phoebe Isabelle Reddick, Fairy Ellen Hissink and Paulene Ostick; her beloved nieces, June Ward of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Alice Jean (Hissick) Strain; and her nephew, Eli Dexter. She leaves behind her daughter, Karen Carruthers of Levant and her family; her daughter, Constance Derby of Missouri and her family; her son, Gary Carruthers of Missouri and his family; her grandsons, Jerry Eaves of Connecticut, Brad Eaves of Iowa, and Eric Knox of Levant; her granddaughters, Tiffany Knox of Levant, Donna (White) Anderson of Massachusetts, Heather (Derby) Clements, and Meredith and Thayer Derby; and all the great-grandchildren. Also in grieving are special nieces and nephews, Alice Boose of Florida, Beverly (Peachie) Murri of Utah, Joyce and Bob Heckart, Bill Reddick of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Carol Langdon of Reno, Nev. She leaves behind her dear friends, Fran Wilcox of Bangor, Helen Dexter of Chicago and Bob Desimone of Agawam, Mass. Alice will be buried with Floyd at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, Mass., at a family ceremony. Donations may be made to her favorite charity, Paralyzed Veterans of America, via their Web site, www.pva.org.
