EAST MILLINOCKET – Joseph “Roland” St. Pierre died June 1, 2010, at a local hospital after a short battle with liver cancer. He was born April 3, 1942, in St. John, the youngest of 13 children of Joseph and Eva (Arsenault) St. Pierre. He served three years as a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division in the early Vietnam War. Roland worked 25 years at Great Northern Paper Co. and Bowater as a master electrician. His hobbies consisted of fishing, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Betty (Oakes); four children, Wanda Landry of Hampden, Tyrone St. Pierre and Jessica Briggs of Lee, Troy and Jennifer St. Pierre of Boise, Idaho, and Stacie St. Pierre and Tom Lee of Medway; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Justin, Travis, Matthew, Erin, Christopher, Thomas, Ella, little Joe; five stepgrandchildren, Avery, Piper, Nikki, Lanita and Paige; and one great-grandchild, Eliza. In addition, he is survived by three sisters, Regina Goslee of Orlando, Fla., Jean Willey of Wethersfield, Conn., and Rowena Longfellow and husband, Steve, of Bristol, Conn.; one brother, Romeo St. Pierre and wife, Marjorie, of Lady Lake, Fla.; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Rena Towne, and Rella and Berdina St. Pierre; and five brothers, Rene, Roderick, Reginald, Ronald and Theodore St. Pierre. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, at St. John Catholic Church, St. John. A reception will be held after the service at St. John Town Hall.
