BRADLEY – Arthur Kenneth Liepold, 55, passed away June 5, 2010, surrounded by family and friends at his residence. Ken was born Nov. 11, 1954, in Springfield, Mass., a son of Arthur and Ann (Cadek) Liepold. He graduated from Morton High School, Cicero, Ill. He went on and graduated from West Point Academy, West Point, N.Y., with a commission of Canon Field Artillery, as a second lieutenant. Ken played offensive tackle for the U.S. Army football team and was selected for Eastern College Athletic Conference division 1 all-star honor roll. Ken served as a first lieutenant in Germany, and was the executive officer of B Battery 2nd Battalion, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery. As a captain, Ken was the commanding officer of A Battery 2nd Battalion 3 Field Artillery. Upon returning to the U.S. Ken attended the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course at Fort Sill, Okla. After graduation Ken was assigned as an assistant professor of military science at the University of Maine. Upon leaving the Army, he was employed by Sawyer Environment, Hermon, and Logistic Management Systems, Hermon. He was a former member of Old Town Rotary Club. Ken was a longtime motorcycle enthusiast. He and his wife, Cindy, enjoyed riding their Harley-Davidson and playing with their dogs. Ken was an avid sports spectator and looked forward to reading, cooking, barbecues, making his bean-hole-beans and gardening. Ken is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Cynthia Brown Liepold; his parents, Arthur and Ann Liepold of St. Augustine, Fla.; his son, Christopher Liepold and his wife, Jill, of Milford; stepdaughters, Lynn Guillemette and her husband, Jeff, of Hope, R.I., Heidi Boone of Bangor, Holly Cunningham of Brewer and Jennifer Ouellette of Old Town; three grandchildren, Gavin Boone, Mallory Liepold and Camdyn Gee; a sister, Kathryn Borris and her husband, Dr. Robert Borris; niece, Anna; nephew, Christian, all of Hilo, Hawaii; and very special friends, Ron, Tim and Paul. Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 11, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Bradley. Immediately after the service, all are invited to the parish hall for a time of celebrating Ken’s life and continued fellowship.
