PITTSFIELD – William Booth, 83, died peacefully Friday, June 18, 2010, in Bangor. He was born June 17, 1927, in Newport, son of the late Elwood and Muriel (Palmer) Booth. He graduated from Maine Central Institute, Class of 1948, and proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. During his military career, he received the Japanese Occupation Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Bill was employed for many years as an engineer for the state of Maine Department of Transportation. He was a member of Meridian Masonic Lodge No. 125 AF & AM, Pittsfield, and had served as a past master. He enjoyed fly-fishing and tying his own flies, downhill skiing and hunting. He coached Peewee basketball for the community of Pittsfield and also umpired as well. He was a wonderful provider, always working hard to take care of his family. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Natalie Booth of Pittsfield; his six sons, William H. Booth Jr. and his wife, Gorel, of Oslo, Norway, Terry Booth and his wife, Carla, of Hartland, Steven Booth and his wife, Debbie, of West Palm, Fla., Scott Booth of Pittsfield, Mark Booth and his wife, Louiselle, of Pittsfield and Peter Booth of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Gerald Booth; and three sisters, Virene DeBeck, Marie Fernald and Dolly Booth. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, with a Masonic service 7 p.m. at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Interment with full military honors will be held immediately after at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
