BANGOR – Frederick F. Caffery Sr., 86, husband of Joyce E. (Conners) Caffery, died June 22, 2010, with his loving wife and son at his side, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 17, 1923, on Oak Island, Revere Beach, Mass., son of Frederick C. and Vera M. (Veno) Caffery. Fred was educated in Revere schools and Pace School of Accounting. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, Dec 8, 1941. After only two weeks of boot camp he served in the Atlantic and Pacific, and was discharged, Nov. 7, 1947, as a petty officer first class. He had his own accounting business for 30 years and in 1987 merged with Loiselle and Beatham – later Beatham and Bernier. Fred was a member of St Mary’s and St John’s Catholic churches, Bangor. He was a life member, first adjutant and treasurer of John F. Kennedy Post Disabled American Veterans, and had been a member of Maine Association of Public Accountants and Maine Society of Certified Public Accountants, and a past treasurer of Bangor Kiwanis. Fred is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce E. (Conners) Caffery of Bangor; son, James C. Caffery and son-in-law, Jeffrey S. Dougherty, both of Watertown, Mass.; sister, Vera M. Cardran of Lynn, Mass.; a special niece, Constance M. Hollifield of Zebulon, N.C.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Geneva Conners of Bangor; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Ralph Malcolm of Cumberland Center; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving son, Frederick F. Caffery Jr.; two sisters, Alice Tynan and Rosemary T. O’Brien; and one brother, Charles E. Caffery. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, June 25, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, York Street, Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery.
