GUILFORD – David Smith Gaston passed away Oct. 8, 2009, and is now with his Heavenly Father whom he loved. David was born in Chinon, France, the youngest son of military parents, Chief Warrant Officer Frank W. Gaston and Mary H. Gaston. He was an accomplished artist and musician, and attended university for art and music. He played several instruments, including the guitar, drums, harmonica, banjo, fiddle, mandolin and piano. He especially loved to read, and compose poetry and songs. He had always been an outstanding orator. David moved to Maine from Texas in 2000, whereupon he adapted quickly to the community picking up many skills. Given any task, he was always willing to attempt and master it, becoming a skilled carpenter. It could be said that he found his way back to the Lord through his friend and pastor, Art Rudman, who married David and Rhonda in summer 2008. In his last few years, he connected with his grandchildren, the light of his life. David will definitely be missed. He is survived by mother, Mary Gaston; older brothers, Parris Meyer and Michael Gaston; closest brother, Steve Gaston; his son, Noah Jon and Alicia Gaston, and their daughters, Patience and Solace; his daughter, Jillian Aurilia and husband, Sgt. Zachary Davis, now stationed in Germany; the mother of Noah and Jillian, Donavan Gaston, of Kingfield; and his former wife, Rhonda Welcome. A memorial service for David will be held 2 p.m. June 30 at Unitarian Universalist Church, Sangerville.
