BANGOR – John Gomes Jr., 64, passed away June 25, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 1, 1946, in Pawtucket, R.I., son of John Gomes Sr. and Hazel (Tordoff) Gomes. John served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. In addition to being a jack-of-all-trades, he worked as a painter for Certa Pro and R & M Painting. He enjoyed fishing and car racing, where he drove the pace truck for several years at Speedway 95. More than anything his family was his life and he absolutely adored his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Kathleen “Kelly” Gomes; his children, Laurie Bjork and her daughter, Kaitlynn, of Bangor, Kelly Tripp and husband, Luther, and their children, Dylan and Sierra Homen of Kenduskeag, Jennifer Maynard and husband, Michael, and their children, Trevor Gomes, Danny Gomes and Matthew Maynard of Levant, and John Gomes III and Sharon Pinkham, and daughters, Kyla and Kalie of Carmel; a sister, Donna Gabriel and husband, Lance; three nephews; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Advent Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be at Kenduskeag Cemetery, Kenduskeag. The family invites relatives and friends to share a luncheon and conversation after the interment at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
