WASHBURN – F. Clair Lavway, 88, died July 2, 2010, at a Mars Hill health care facility. He was born May 16, 1922, in Washburn, son of Frank and Madeline (Brown) Lavway. He was a longtime member and past trustee of Lidstone Memorial United Methodist Church, Washburn. He was a member of the Maine National Guard. Clair was an area potato grower for many years and later was a warehouse manager for McCains for more than 20 years. He was a past member and past chairman of Washburn School Board and a member of Washburn Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed square dancing and was a longtime member of the Spud Shufflers. Clair is survived by his wife, Christina (Churchill) Lavway of Washburn; a son and his wife, Dave and Joanne Lavway of Glenburn; a daughter and her husband, Diane and Judd Hemphill of Presque Isle; grandchildren and their spouses, Marci and Stephen Wilcox, Amie Lavway and her fiance, Kris Milo, Eric and Kelly Hemphill, and Greg and Kim Hemphill; great-grandchildren, Erica, Alex, Garrett, Grayden, Grant and Gavin Hemphill, Christopher, Morgan and Andrew Wilcox; two brothers, Lawrence and John Lavway; sisters, Betty Umphrey, Alyce Kenney and Yvonne Beaulieu; several nieces and nephews; and his special feline friend, Tiger. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Lavway. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Dorothy Matson and Pastor Sue Brown officiating. Relatives and friends may call noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Crouseville Cemetery. A reception will be afterward at Lidstone Memorial United Methodist Church, Washburn. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the church.
