A Bangor teenager was charged Wednesday evening with criminal speed in Brewer after she was caught going 80 mph in a 25 mph zone, Brewer police Sgt. Arden Jones said Thursday.
“It’s a ridiculous speed,” he said. “That is a residential area.”
Olivia Madore, 19, was driving on Eastern Avenue near a housing development around 6:50 p.m. when she was caught speeding by Brewer police Officer Stephen Boyd. She was given a ticket for criminal speed but was not arrested.

A Brewer man living on Maple Street was asked to close his curtains early Wednesday morning after a neighbor called police to say he was masturbating in plain view.
Police went to the area at 2:20 a.m. and gave the man a warning for public indecency.

A 30-year-old Bangor woman was charged with domestic violence assault after she reportedly assaulted her 24-year-old boyfriend Wednesday night, leaving him with a swollen eye and scratches, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Thursday.
Someone called police at 7 p.m. to report an argument. While en route, Officer Chris Blanchard found and interviewed the male victim, who had visible signs that he had been “punched and scratched in the face, neck and back,” Hunt said.
While being interviewed, the victim was called several times by the woman who reportedly had assaulted him. Beth Grant was not at home when police arrived, but she eventually returned and was arrested without incident for domestic violence assault. She was taken to Penobscot County Jail and was released on bail Thursday afternoon, a jail official said.

University of Maine public safety officers were called to Oak Hall several times Wednesday evening to deal with an intoxicated student, and after the third time they arrested the man, Joe Carr, university spokesman, said Thursday.
Shane Smith, 26, a resident of the dormitory, was given his first warning to quiet down around 10:45 p.m. When police were called to the dorm for the third time, around 11:30 p.m., they decided to arrest him, Carr said.
Smith was taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor and remained there Thursday evening, a jail official said.
