BUCKSPORT – Eugene A. Weston, 70, died July 8, 2010, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born July 26, 1939, in Bangor, the son of G. Winslow “Winnie” and Laura (Grey) Weston. He lived in Bucksport all of his life, graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1958, and then EMVTI, South Portland, where he received a degree in building construction. He worked in the building trade for five years before joining Bucksport Fire Department and Ambulance service in 1963, where he worked for the next 38 years, the last eight years as fire chief and ambulance director. While in the fire department he took night classes at Eastern Maine Technical College, and received a degree in fire science. The fire department and ambulance service became his second love; he enjoyed working with the members and for the citizens of Bucksport. After retiring he went back to work for the town part time doing maintenance on town facilities and “had a ball.” Eugene enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing, camping and NASCAR racing with his family; he also enjoyed going to McDonald’s for coffee with all of his friends. He married the love of his life and best friend who he met in high school, Esther “Tootsie” Spooner, in 1961, and they had three children. Eugene is survived by his wife of 49 years, Esther Weston of Bucksport; two sons, Dwayne Weston and Jeffrey and his wife, Donna Weston; daughter, Barbara Allen, all of Bucksport; five grandchildren, Benjamin Weston of Winterport, Alex McNiff of Bucksport, Christopher, Courtney and Adrian Allen, all of Bucksport; a brother, G. William “Bill” and his wife, Solveig “Sue” Weston, of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; nieces and nephews, Erik and Regina Weston of Norton, Mass., Kristina and Paul Fullerton and family of Lakeville, Mass., and Leana and Dave Bilotta of East Tauton, Mass.; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Visiting hours will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Franklin Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Peter Remick and Pastor Ralph Green officiating. Interment will be at Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eugene’s memory to Bucksport Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 1848, Bucksport, ME 04416.
