MADAWASKA – Arthur E. Foss, 82, died July 9, 2010, at a Madawaska health care facility. He was born May 14, 1928, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Eugene and Blanche (Hanscom) Foss. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post No. 147, Madawaska. He graduated from Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston, after serving in the Navy for four years. Art joined the Navy after his junior year in high school and went back to finish his education after he was honorably discharged. After graduation he learned of possible employment at Fraser Paper, Madawaska, so he decided to apply for a job. He worked 33 years in the boiler house – power plant – at Fraser’s until he retired. He enjoyed tremendously hunting and fishing with his friends, and was an avid sports fan, especially baseball – particularly the NY Yankees. He had a wonderful sense of humor. Art is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Juliette (Labbe) Foss; his sister-in-law, Betty Jessome and her children, Frances LeBrun, Michael Jessome, Debbie Jessome, Peter Paul Jessome and Julie Ann Jessome; several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the last survivor of his immediate family. Many thanks to hospice who made these last days more bearable. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Lajoie Funeral Home, where friends and family may call 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday. Interment will be immediately after at the parish cemetery. Contributions in Arthur’s memory may be made to Hospice of Aroostook, P.O. Box 688, Caribou, ME 04736.
