GLENBURN – Clarence A. “Sid” Heath, 88, died Friday July 23, 2010, after a brief illness. Clarence was born Jan. 12, 1922, in East Conway, N.H., son of Clarence A. Heath Sr. and Leola (Sullivan) Heath Moran. He was raised in Brewer and Bangor, and graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1941. Sid was a World War II veteran, having served in Europe with the U.S. Army 2nd Infantry Division from 1942 to 1945. His war service extended from the landing on Omaha Beach, on D-Day plus one through V-E Day, May 8, 1945. For his service during World War II, he was awarded five battle stars. After his discharge in 1945, he was employed by Fox & Ginn Trucking Co., and was a member of Local No. 340 International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He remained with the company until its freight operation ceased in 1979. Never one to be idle, he continued working at a variety of jobs until he was 86, when he retired for the last time. For many years he was self-employed as a courier, most recently making deliveries to hospitals for Eastern Maine Medical Center. Sid was a member of Arnold R. Kelly American Legion Post No. 200 and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brewer, where he enjoyed playing billiards with some of his many friends. Sid was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Bernice, in 2006; and a sister, Margaret Moran Saltz. Surviving are two children, John Heath and his wife, Barbara, of Falmouth and Jo Clark and her husband, Daniel, of Bangor; three grandchildren, Brian and Erin Clark and Sarah Heath; one great-grandson, Aidan Heath; two sisters, Mary Ellen Merrithew and Gail Ferdenzi, both of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
