FORT FAIRFIELD – James Stephen Russell, 61, passed away July 21, 2010, doing what he loved most, enjoying the beautiful Maine wilderness along the Union River. He was born Dec. 20, 1948, in Fort Fairfield, son of Daniel B. and Mary A. (Boynton) Russell. Jim grew up on a potato farm and worked there until he graduated from Fort Fairfield High School and the University of Maine. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. Jim graduated from the University of Maine School of Law and served 27 years as a JAG officer in the U.S. Army. He then became an administrative law judge with the Social Security Administration for 13 years until he retired. Jim loved Maine and all that it offered. He was the ultimate provider and saw beauty in everything. He was a wonderful grandfather and adored his only grandchild. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Teryl “Teri” (Smith) Russell of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Daniel Russell and wife, Kaylan, of Texas, and Stephen Russell and fiancee, Kristen Ahrens, of California; a dear granddaughter, Amelia Russell; brothers and sisters, Carol Wheeler and husband, Phil, of Connecticut, Diane Brissette and husband, Bruce, of Michigan, Ron Russell and wife, Jill, of North Carolina, and Janet Duggan and husband, Marty, of Buxton; many nieces and nephews. Friends may pay their respects 3-5 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
