CALAIS – James F. Hamilton, 78, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010, at Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center, Calais. Jim was born May 21, 1932, in Calais, son of the late Harold and Gwendolyn (Berry) Hamilton. After attending Calais area schools, Jim’s family relocated to Massachusetts. He worked for Empire Fish Co., Gloucester, Mass., for many years until relocating back home to Calais in 1980. Jim then worked as a janitor for area churches, including Calais United Methodist Church and St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, and also did yard work for many area families. He was a faithful member of Calais United Methodist Church, Calais Rod & Gun Club, Happy Gang Senior Citizens and Seniority Group. Jim enjoyed wood-working, fishing, bicycling, gardening and photography. One of his most proud achievements was receiving a “20 Gallon Pin” from the American Red Cross, for whom he was a proud contributor for many years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister, Shirley Hamilton; and two cousins, Catherine Hatton and Ora Preston. Surviving are his cousins, Alice Robinson and her family of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Marcia Smith and her family of Woolwich, Peter Berry and his family of Roque Bluffs, and Dale Berry and his family of Florida; very special neighbors, Rick and Heidi Fitch and Marc and Betsy Barnard; numerous other cousins and relatives. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Calais United Methodist Church, 849 Main St., Calais. Burial will be after at Baring Cemetery.
