ORONO – Eleanor True Emerson, 84, passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 23, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 16, 1925, in Bangor, the daughter of Edward M. and Helen (Ring) True. For more than 63 years she was married to Robert E. Emerson. She was a dedicated volunteer throughout her life and was an active member of her community. Early in her life she supported the war effort by working for the Office of Public Affairs and Veterans Administrations Eleanor was involved in her children’s lives and served as a Cub Scout and Brownie leader. She was a longtime volunteer at Eastern Maine Medical Center Gift Shop and Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary. Golfing was a particular passion for her and she served as past president of Penobscot Valley Country Club Women’s Golf Association In addition to her loving husband, Eleanor is survived by her three children, Sandra Emerson King and husband, Dennis, of Freeport, Glenn Emerson and Sandi Mead of Hudson, N.H., and Cynthia Emerson of Bangor; two grandchildren, Kristen King Pierce and husband, Andrew, of Two Harbors, Minn., and Aaron S. King and wife, Samantha, of Hoboken, N.J.; and a great-grandchild, Grady Pierce. A committal service at Riverside Cemetery, Orono, will be announced at a later date.
