PRESQUE ISLE – Garfield S. Maynard, 88, died peacefully Monday, July 26, 2010, at Cary Medical Center, Caribou. He was born July 27, 1921, in Presque Isle, son of Albert and Katherine (McInnis) Maynard. For 55 years, he was married to the love of his life, Marie “Tootie” Langley. He worked diligently to support his family as a long haul truck driver until age 76. He loved to have his family around him and enjoyed taking them on yearly trips to Prince Edward Island. He was an avid fan of New England sports teams: Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He was also a member of American Legion. He is survived by four sons and their wives, Daniel G. and Carol of Chapman, Roger A. and Maxine of Mapleton, Albert J. and Kim of Hermon, and Jeffrey C. and Sue of Casco; four daughters, Donna M. Holmes and her husband, Jim, of Caribou, Deborah L. Winklmann of Washburn, Kimberly Conaway and her husband, Ken, of Raymond, and Lisa A. Maynard of Presque Isle, who was so precious to him; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Garfield was predeceased by his wife, Marie Maynard, in 2001; five brothers and four sisters.
