TOPSHAM and BREWER – Gail Lynn Melita, 59, died peacefully July 24, 2010, surrounded by her loving family and friends at her home in Topsham. She was born July 24, 1951, in Kingston, R.I., daughter of Donald and Rosalie (Grant) Houp. Gail had an amazing ability; one that allowed her to pause and truly embrace the little moments that are often so quickly overlooked in such a busy world. She lived, laughed and loved life with a fierceness that will undoubtedly continue to encircle her loved ones always. Surviving are her husband, Michael J. Melita; one daughter, Nicole Melita; two grandchildren, Maren Grace and Cody Maxwell, all of Topsham; her mother, Rosalie Houp of Bangor; four brothers, Donald Houp Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, of Newburgh, Scott Houp and his wife, Lois, of Kentucky, Richard Houp and his wife, Susan, of Brewer, and Robert Houp and his wife, Elizabeth, of Gorham; two sisters, Cheryl Wilson and her husband, Daniel, of East Holden, and Janice Seastead and her husband, Erik, of Mount Vernon; many beloved nieces and nephews. Gail was predeceased by her father; and one brother, Timothy Houp. A celebration of Gail’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Dr. Tracy Reeves, pastor of North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church, presiding. Interment will be at North Brewer Cemetery.
