HAMPDEN – Dudley Houghton, 67, husband of Nancy (McInnis) Houghton, died unexpectedly Aug. 4, 2010, at his home. He was born Oct. 21, 1942, in Schenectady, N.Y., the son of Herbert and Mary (Gulnac) Houghton. Before moving to Orono, Dudley’s younger years were spent in Waterford and Rumford, where he was a member of the ski and football teams. He attended Gould Academy and later graduated from Orono High School, Class of 1961. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving from 1962 to 1965, including service in Turkey and Vietnam during the war. While raising their children in Bangor, Dudley worked at Great Northern/Bowater Paper, Millinocket, until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan and could be heard, if not seen, at many sporting events. He especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s games. He will be sadly missed by all including those he encountered each morning at Pat’s Pizza or the corner store. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his four children, Stephanie Terry and her husband, Jason, of Casco, Paula Page and her husband, Chris, of Hermon, Jeff Houghton and his wife, Suzie, of Bangor, and Stefan Oberg and his wife, Anna, of Sweden. “Bumpa” will be fondly remembered by his 10 grandchildren, Andrew, Jackson, Alyssa, Maddie, Grace, Abby, Julia, William, Martin and Anton; his brothers, Richardson “Ritz” of Colorado and James “Howdy” of Bar Harbor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara McInnis and Steven Rouse of Washburn, Janet McInnis and Dick Goodman of Hermon, and Maddy and Steve Currier of Lee. He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, John Houghton. Family and friends may visit 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor. A private service celebrating Dudley’s life will be held at a later date.
