JONESPORT – Katie R. Foss, 90, or “Aunt Kate,” as she was so lovingly called, went to be with her Lord Aug. 9, 2010. She was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Addison, daughter of Milton O. and Mertie (Church) Manchester. She attended Jonesport schools and went to work at a very young age at William Underwood’s Sardine Factory, Jonesport. Many years later she retired from Stinson’s Cannery, Prospect Harbor. She will be remembered as a wonderful sister, aunt, friend and faithful member of Community of Christ Church, Jonesport. Katie was a great lover of animals, especially her birds. She spent many hours during her illness watching them every day. She also loved spending time with members of her family, giving of her time, support and love. Katie is survived by her sisters, Ivy Gould of Friendship, Florence Smith and her husband, Philmore, Vannie Alley and Dorothy White of Jonesport; her brother, Thurston Manchester Sr. of Addison; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Merle H. Foss; and five brothers, Hiley, Harold, Leroy, Lessie and Frank. Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until time of service 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Community of Christ Church, Jonesport. Burial will be after at the family cemetery in Snarecreek.
