PORTLAND – Michael J. Dow, 58, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010. Mike was born Feb. 5, 1952, in Bangor, a son of the late Earl Basil and Elizabeth (Mallett) Dow. He was raised in Orono and graduated from Orono High School, Class of 1970. He was married to Mary Ellen “Ellie” (Cota) Dow for 39 years. Mike worked for J.J. Nissan for 25 years and then went to work for the city of Portland in the parks department for 10 years. He retired in 2007 due to illness. He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 244, Bangor, and loved to restore motorcycles and occasionally a corvette. He enjoyed passing the time reading his favorite books and watching movies that had to do with World War II. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jess Michael Dow and his wife, Christina, of Naples; his daughter, Elizabeth Alice Fournier and her husband, Benjamin, of Westbrook; and his two grandsons, Jack Michael and Owen Riley Dow. He also leaves a sister, Suzanne Estes and her husband, Thomas, of Ellsworth; his sister-in-law, Charlotte Dow of Brewer; several nieces and nephews; and all of Mary Ellen’s family, who were such a big part of his life. He was also the brother of the late Thomas A. Dow, who died August 2002. Services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland.
