MACHIASPORT – Edward E. Gately Jr., 59, passed away Aug. 9, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at home. He was born Sept. 8, 1950, in Machias, son of Edward E. Gately Sr. and Louise Johnson Gately Proctor. On Nov. 22, 1979, he married the love of his life, Sharon Wood Gately, where they made their home in Machiasport. He became a longtime truck driver, where most people would’ve known him as “Wild Turkey.” Trucking was his life. He was a wonderful husband, father and papa. He leaves behind his wife, Sharon Wood Gately; his son, Timothy Gately and wife, Selena; daughter, Tanya Gately; second son, Ryan Gately; his grandbabies, Maximus and Trent; his mother, Louise Johnson Gately Proctor; his two sisters, Kathy Davis and husband, Brian, and Christine Huckins and husband, Kerry; and special aunt and uncle, Celia and Sheldon Ward and family. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; many great friends, including his longtime friends, Donnie Smith and Paula Letendre; and many truck driving friends he made throughout the years. He was predeceased by his father, Edward E. Gately Sr.; and stepfather, Harold Proctor. At the request of Eddie, there will be no funeral services.
