CARIBOU – Colby “Cobby” Ewing, 58, died Aug. 18, 2010, surrounded by his family at his residence. He was born July 9, 1952, in Caribou, son of Kenneth and Rita (Clark) Ewing. Colby was a 1970 graduate of Caribou High School and served with the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge from the service, he farmed in Caribou from 1974 until 1998. He retired from farming and became a professional long-haul driver and driver trainer for R.F. Chamberland Inc. for a number of years. Colby was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp. He was a registered Maine master guide. He truly enjoyed snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family. He was a life member of Lister-Knowlton Post 9389 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Henry P. Pratt Post 15 American Legion, as well as National Rifle Association. Surviving, in addition to his parents of Caribou, are his significant other and best friend, Lisa Browning of Caribou; one daughter, Staci Hoge of South Portland; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Darlene Ewing, and Mike and Christie Ewing, all of Caribou; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Neil and Michelle Ewing of Presque Isle, and Clark and Theresa Ewing of Caribou; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Donald Demerchant of Caribou; one grandson, Caleb Ewing; two stepgranddaughters, Erin and Carrie Caldwell; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Ewing was predeceased by a brother, Rodney; and a grandson, Michael Brooker Jr. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, in the chapel with the Rev. John Kiehn, pastor of Caribou United Baptist Church, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
