BANGOR – Blair (Mathews) Blaine, 64, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Bethlehem, Pa., the daughter of Burgess and Dorothy (Millar) Mathews. Blair was a graduate of Hingham High School, Hingham, Mass., and the University of Maine, where she obtained degrees in physical education and Spanish. She enjoyed a career’s as a physical education teacher at Bangor Christian Academy and as an oral surgical assistant. Blair had many hobbies, including cooking, stained glass, gardening, croquet, spending time at Bog Lake, water skiing and swimming, as well as relaxing and picnicking Down East, especially at Schoodic Point. She is looking down on all of us with a broad, beautiful smile. Blair is survived by her children, William Burgess of New Milford, Conn., Barbara Jean of Woonsocket, R.I., Brenda Joy of Bangor, Matthew Brett of Bangor and Mark Barrett and his wife, Lori, of Brewer; grandchildren, Kyle Keissling, Josh Blaine, Nicholas Blaine, Ethan Blaine and Lyla Blaine; and brothers, Perry Matthews of Denver and Rodney Matthews of Fairhope, Ala. She will be always remembered by her former husband, William H. Blaine and his wife, Janine, of Northfield. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. After the service relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor.
