BRIDGEWATER – Burton E. Durost, 85, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 20, 2010. He was the son of J. Everett and Lillian (Giberson) Drost. Burton was educated in various schools in East Plantation and Mars Hill. He graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in 1943 and left shortly thereafter to become part of the U.S. Army. He served as a staff sergeant in Company B with the 303rd Medical Battalion from 1943 to 1946. Burton married Launa Bubar, July 15, 1947. From that time on, they were partners raising their two daughters and potato farming. In recent years he has enjoyed working at Ketchum’s Christmas Tree Farm, mowing at Mars Hill Country Club in the summer and attending to the ski lift at Big Rock in the winter. He loved attending many of their grandchildren’s school functions and sporting events. He attended East Ridge Union Church. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Woodie Drost; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Yvonne Bubar, Susie Grass, and Doris and Phil McCrum. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Launa Bubar Durost; two daughters and sons-in-law, Trudy and Steve Clockedile of Blaine and Sherri and Warren Cushman of Mars Hill; six grandchildren, Liza, Jeff and Sam Clockedile, Garrett Cushman and his wife, Amanda, Deidre Clark and her husband, Shane, and Damie Cushman; two great-great-grandsons, Carson and Ethan Cushman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Betty Durost, James and Peggy Drost and John Grass; along with many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, at Duncan Funeral Home, Mars Hill. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, at East Ridge Union Church, Mars Hill, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Immediately after the service there will be a reception in the church’s fellowship room. Committal services with military honors will be at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine.
