PRESQUE ISLE – Marie M. Berube, 74, died unexpectedly Thursday evening, Aug. 19, 2010, at a Bangor hospital from complications of a stroke. She was born May 15, 1936, in Fort Kent, the daughter of Edmund and Estelle (Boutot) LaFrance. Marie and Gil owned the first ambulance service in Presque Isle and owned and operated Gil’s Wrecker Service, Gil’s Sanitation and Presque Isle Auto Parts. Marie was very instrumental in each and every one of the businesses. She always told her family that “behind every successful businessman is a good woman.” Marie loved good music and you could always find her dancing the night away. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gilford; three sons and their wives, Terry and Suzanne, Bruce and Tammy, all of Presque Isle, and Tom and Susan of Washburn; four grandchildren, Alan Berube and his wife, Mary (Sharp), and their children, Michael and Alanna, Ashley and her fiance, Matt Lunt, of Oakland, Brandon and his friend, Becky MacDonald, of West Chapman and Morgan Berube of Washburn; two brothers, Carl LaFrance and his wife, Joy, of Cannan and Elmer LaFrance of Massachusetts; two sisters, Bea Jones and her husband, Ben, of California and Florence LaFrance of Presque Isle; and a sister-in-law, Joanne LaFrance of Jefferson. She was predeceased by a sister, Florina Cote; and a brother, Wilmer “Kit” LaFrance. A Mass of Christian burial will celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, at St. Marys Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Aaron Damboise, celebrant. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery.
