OLD TOWN – Eva R. Greenleaf, 91, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010, in the company of family at an Orono nursing facility. She was born Feb. 14, 1919, at the Pinkham family farm on outer Essex Street in Orono. Eva was the youngest of 11 children to Myron L. and Lizzie M. (Temple) Pinkham. She had three brothers and seven sisters. Her father was a dairy farmer and when Eva was two years old the family had a cattle drive and moved “Pinkham’s Farm” to Stillwater Avenue in Old Town. Eva grew up during the Depression, where there was little money and farm life was everything. She attended Old Town schools and later worked at Philco Shoe, Bangor. She married Frank Greenleaf and together they raised three sons while continuing to help out on the farm with meal preparations for the farm hands. Eva was a wonderful cook and known for her homemade beans, breads and pies. Her farm house was always full of family and friends. Later her husband’s career sent them to various locations in Maine, Arkansas, Missouri and parts of Mexico. They moved back to Old Town in 1975. Eva was a hard worker and caregiver with a strong drive for helping family and friends. Eva is survived by two sons, Frank Greenleaf and his wife, Deanie, of Milford and Gary Greenleaf and his wife, Lisa, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren, Troy Greenleaf and his wife, Terri, of Old Town, Jolee Baylus and her husband, Alan, of Reisterstown, Md., Gayle Chambers and her husband, Buddy, of Old Town, Eva Greenleaf, who is stationed at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and Mark Greenleaf and his wife, Martha, of Bangor; two stepchildren, David Greenleaf of Texas and Sandra Champion of Florida; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Pauline Clukey, who was like a sister to her. Eva will be sadly missed by all who knew her, especially her dear friends, Ed and Ruthie Young. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Frank; son, Jimmy; and her siblings: three brothers, Percy, Linwood and Raymond and seven sisters, Agnes, Elsie, Florence, Lizzie, Edna, Marion and Frances. The Greenleaf family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Orono Commons for their care given. Friends may call 6-8:30 p.m. Monday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A celebration of Eva’s life will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Old Town United Methodist Church, Stillwater Avenue, Old Town. Condolences may be left at www.birminghamfuneralhome.com. <
