VAN BUREN – Ronald P. Roy, 70, died Aug. 20, 2010, at Maine Medical Center, Portland, after a courageous bout with cancer and heart disease. He was born July 3, 1940, in Hamlin, the son of Pierre and Artheline (Lavoie) Roy. Ronald was an excellent carpenter who understood old houses. The Acadian Village will feel the void of his absence. He was a member of Van Buren Pine Runners ATV Club and L’Heritage Vivant Historical Society, and a life member of North American Hunting Club. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Anne (Parent) Roy of Van Buren; two sons, Donald Roy and wife, Sylvie, of Bethel and John Roy of Worcester, Mass.; two daughters, Nancy Roy of Worcester, Mass., and Kelly-Sue Pitre and husband, Ricky, of Fort Kent; three sisters, Gerry Thibodeau and husband, Alban, of Ocala, Fla., Rosanne Gravel and husband, Jean-Louis, of Salem, N.H., and Mary Jean Grandmaison and husband, Rosaire, of Methuen, Mass.; sister-in-law, Ursule Roy of Notre Dame de Lourdes, New Brunswick; seven grandchildren, Krystal Kerns, Alex Montero, Brian Montero Ford, Eric Roy, Mackenzie Pitre, Robert Roy and Dominic Pitre; several nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his best friend and cousin, Reno Lavoie and his wife, Johanne; and his canasta playing friends, Rob, Mona, Butch, Doreen, Danny and Toupee; and most of all, his wife. In addition to his parents, Ronald was predeceased by a brother, Harvey “Red” Roy. Relatives and friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, at Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hamlin. Committal service and interment will be at the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in his memory to Alderic Violette-Acadian Village Maintenance Fund or the Edgar J. Paradis Cancer Fund.
