OLD TOWN – Armand Raymond Paradis, 75, passed away peacefully Aug. 21, 2010, after a long illness surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born July 6, 1935, in Great Works, son of Armand C. and Frances (Soucie) Paradis. Ray graduated from Old Town High School in 1955 and married his high school sweetheart, Norma “Sally” Reynolds in 1956. He was a member of the Air National Guard Reserves for six years. He worked on construction projects throughout the state prior to becoming maintenance supervisor for the Old Town School Department in 1971. He took great pride in caring for the school facilities in Old Town until he retired in 1997. He was active with area youth through scouting and coaching. Ray was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. His hobbies were carpentry and gardening. He cherished his time spent with his family and at camp. Ray was a caring and giving soul always ready to help everyone. In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by three sons, Kevin Paradis and his wife, Kelly, Mark Paradis and his wife, Dianne, of Old Town and David Paradis and his wife, Ronda, of Reading, Mass.; two daughters, Mary Chappelle and her husband, Steve, of Old Town and Lisa Pelletier of Topsham; 14 grandchildren, Adam Paradis and his wife, Sonali, of Bangor, Brendon, Chad, Amanda and Evan Paradis, Brian and Travis Chappelle of Old Town, Julia, Jacqueline, Danielle and Katherine Paradis of Reading, Mass., Megan, and Bethany and Michelle Pelletier of Topsham; his two sisters, Carole Anne Cust and her husband, Harlan, of Old Town and Barbara Jones and her husband, Ron, of Bangor; a brother, Edward Paradis and his wife, Ginny, of Zellwood, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Brian Folster. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church of Resurrection Parish, Old Town. Burial will be afterward at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. Immediately after the service, all are invited back to the parish hall for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
